Hinduja College Hosts the Money Karma Book Launch
Most of us were taught how to earn money and, with luck, how to save it. Far fewer of us were ever asked how we feel about it. That question sat at the heart of an afternoon at Hinduja College on 3rd September 2026, when our Commerce Department hosted the launch of Money Karma: 9 Mantras to Fix Your Relationship with Money by author Ms. Moona Ssahni.
A Launch Where Books Belong

The programme began in the College Library, which felt like exactly the right place to start. In front of students, faculty members and the author herself, the book was unveiled, and Ms. Ssahni gave students a short orientation to its central ideas. Her message was a simple invitation: stop and think about how you approach money, and why.
Money as a Relationship, Not Just a Number
What set the conversation apart was the way Ms. Ssahni framed the subject. Money, she suggested, isn’t only a matter of income, wealth or figures on a statement. It’s a relationship, shaped by mindset, habits and choices, much like any other. For commerce students who spend most of their academic lives working with numbers, that perspective offered a different lens on a subject they thought they already understood.
The Fireside Chat
The second session moved to Room No. 18 for a fireside chat and student interaction. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Navin Punjabi sat down with the author for a conversation that proved to be one of the afternoon’s highlights. His questions were thoughtful and wide-ranging, drawing out the author’s views on financial awareness and on how people perceive money in their own lives. The result felt less like an interview and more like a genuine exchange of ideas.
Students Joined the Conversation

Soon enough, the room opened up. Students put questions directly to Ms. Ssahni, asking about her experience and the ideas behind her book. Her answers drew on her professional background, which gave the discussion a practical grounding that students clearly valued. With around 100 students taking part, the energy in the room made it clear the topic had struck a chord.
Why This Conversation Matters for Commerce Students
For students heading into careers in finance, business and management, understanding money goes well beyond technical knowledge. Financial decisions are shaped by mindset and behaviour as much as by formulas, and recognising that early can make a real difference. By bringing the subject into a personal, reflective space, the Commerce Department gave students something a textbook rarely does: a reason to examine their own habits.
A Thoughtful Start to Financial Awareness
The programme succeeded in building awareness about conscious financial decision-making, and it did so in a way that felt engaging rather than preachy. Students left with new questions to ask themselves, which is often the best outcome a session like this can have.
Looking Ahead
Events like the Money Karma launch show how the Commerce Department keeps learning connected to real life. We’re grateful to Ms. Ssahni for sharing her time and insights with our students, and we look forward to many more conversations that help our students think more deeply about the world they’re entering.
