STUDENTS & SOCIAL MEDIA

Social media can empower or distract students.
– It is all about balance.

According to George Hegel's dialectics theory, each & everything in this world has a good as well as bad
quality at the same time. Social media has the power to influence people's mind but it depends on the
student whether he/she is receiving good or bad influence from social media. For example, many
students' financial condition was poor yet they cleared tough exams such as CA, JEE, NEET etc. using
YouTube, a social media app. On the other hand, many people also indulge in smoking, drinking
liquor etc. bad habits & ruin their lives by watching bad influencers' videos. Both social media & career
are equally important in today's life because entertainment & hard work are a prominent part of every
individual's life. We should be cautious & take measures so that we don't go in bad influence & at the
same time enjoy both aspects of life equally.

Students are the future of the nation therefore the government should keep a track on social media & if
necessary ban apps like TikTok in the future too. An epitome is China where on social media only that
content which affects students' mind positively is allowed on social media platforms. Schools & Colleges
should also include at least a chapter dedicated to social media instructing students about pros & cons
of social media.

We should learn lessons from Finland, a country which is considered one of the happiest countries in the
world which also has low crime rates as they believe that a student's majority of childhood is spent in
school, they have set up measures in such a way that students are aware of many hardships in life & how
to tackle them. As in childhood children get easily influenced by many things & don't have an idea about
good & bad things, social media's access should be given to students at a certain age mostly in the
teenage years because students develop an idea about good & bad things in life till teenage. Parents
play an important role in a child's development & hence awareness should be spread about morals &
ethics by parents to their child. The best possible solution is to teach children about religion & give
access to books rather than social media till teenage at least.
