WOMEN SAFETY AND SOCIETY
“Are we really living in a safe society?" This question should be asked by every woman. Centuries have
passed, rise and fall of we have seen rise and fall of great empires. But one thing hasn't changed i.e.
oppression of women in society. The society which makes rules and regulations on how to live and
behave in a society is cruel to women. During olden times women were considered breeding stocks. The
sole reason for a woman was to live to reproduce a male heir. And if a woman fails to do so she was not
respected nor valued by her family and was replaced. The social patriarchy does not value women nor
give them equal rights like men. Women were always considered weak physically, mentally,
emotionally. They were always considered inferior to men and were exploited.
Even now the condition is still the same. The things have not changed. Even though there are many
feminist movements have taken place and many women are free but still there are restrictions. Many
families still do not let the women in their family go out for a job and are expected to become
housewives. Discrimination between male and female still exists in some households. Women are
expected to arrive at home before sunset. Asia, Africa, America, Europe no country or continent has
changed much and social patriarchy pretty much remains the same. In India girls are not educated and
married off at an early age. Women are still told to adjust as per the male. Instead of teaching women,
men should be taught how to respect women about equality. Unless and until the men and women don’t
change the society won’t, and it's our duty to change it.
“Is my country the most dangerous?”
“No” But is it safe? The answer is still NO. Globally 81% of women have faced sexual assault in their
daily life. Women were not safe and neither are they now. In olden times in India after losing the war the
women of that kingdom would sacrifice themselves by jumping into the fire pit known as ‘Jauhar’. In
order to protect their dignity and respect or else they were forced to be punished, raped and killed by
enemy soldiers. Women have a long history of pain, agony and it is written by blood and tears. Sexual
offenders and rapists are freely roaming outside and are not punished as they should.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
