Introduction

The Bachelor of Commerce in Financial Markets (BFM) is an innovative undergraduate programme tailored for students eager to explore the dynamic world of finance and investment. This three-year course blends foundational business knowledge with specialized training in financial markets, securities, investment analysis, and regulatory frameworks.

After implementation of NEP 2020, B.Com in Financial markets is offered in 2 modes one as an Under Graduate course of 3 years and an Honours Degree with Research of 4 years. The 3 years UG BFM programme is divided into 6 semesters. The course trains students in aspects of trading in financial securities including stocks, bonds, and commodities in the market by studying Debt and Equity markets, Financial Assets and Foreign Exchange markets. The major job roles after this course are Financial Analyst, Investment Banking Analyst, Stock Broker, Fund / Portfolio manager, Risk Manager, Tax/ Financial Consultant, Accountant, Banker, etc.

Eligibility

Candidates aspiring to pursue B.Com(Financial Markets) Degree shall have passed XII std. examination of the Maharashtra State Board of Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent and secured not less than 45% marks in aggregate at first attempt (40% in case of reserved category). Every candidate admitted to the degree Course shall have to register himself/herself with the University of Mumbai. There is no Entrance Exam, admission will be on merit basis.

After completing Bachelor of Commerce (Financial Markets) programme, Learners will be able to :

PS02 Apply practical knowledge of Finance, training in professional skills and ethics to build competencies in the area of financial markets.

PS04 Analyse the global challenges and be exposed to newer avenues in the field of finance and financial markets.

PS06 Gain research proficiency by evaluating the financial viability and sustainability of various projects.
PS07 Enhance analytical reasoning skills to assess diverse investment opportunities and adeptly manage related risks.
PS08 Exhibit strong problem-solving capabilities through thorough due diligence and adherence to compliance standards.

Scheme of Examination

The Scheme of the Examination shall be divided in two parts:

  • Continuous Internal Assessment – 40 %
  • Semester End Examination – 60 %

Highlights

  • FYBFM Orientation Program – On 31st July, 2024 was organised to familiarized the students about the college rules, attendance, syllabus, structure of examinations, etc.
  • NISM Certificate Programs – BFM Dept. in Association with ANMI organised 30 hours Certificate course on Equity Derivatives or Broking Operations from October 24, 2024 to January 9, 2025 for TYBFM and SYBFM student.
  • Field Visits – On December 10, 2024 BFM students visited Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)
  • Field Project – During February and March, 2025 BFM dept student took projects of financial litracy and fund rasing through Finvestor Carnival to support the commendable work of Vatsalya Foundation.
  • Guest Lectures and Colloquium organized by BFM Department

    The BFM department organizes various guest lectures, inviting industry experts to share their accumulated knowledge and invaluable insights with students:

    • On July 05, 2024 - TYBFM organised a career counseling session for FYBFM students.
    • On August 30, 2024, guest lecture featuring Mr. Manaksh Bhanushali – SDG Cell of Maharashtra Government, on sustainable development.
    • On November 30, 2024, Dept. organized a session focused on ‘Tata - Values Beyond Business’.
    • On January 01, 2025, Mr. Monil Shah from FinPlan provided guidance on MBA programme.
    • On March 15, 2025 A guest lecture was organized on Indirect tax addressed by Mr. Alok Sudhir Hardik from Ghanshyamdas Saraf College of Arts and Commerce.
    • On March 15,2025 A guest lecture was delivered by Mr. Prasanna Choudhary from Ghanshyamdas Saraf College of Arts and Commerce on Mutual Fund Management
    • On March 17, 2025, Mr. Abhijit from Viva College of Arts, Commerce & Science delivered a session on Risk Management.
  • Finvestor’ 25 – BFM Department organized its annual inter-collegiate educational fest Finvestor’25, spanning over two days on February 24 and 25. Finvestor’25. The core focus of Finvestor Fest is to demystify the world of finance and empower students with essential financial knowledge. Beyond theoretical knowledge, Finvestor provides an impetus for the students to learn, grow, and showcase their skills in the most practical manner possible. 24 colleges participated and competed in the numerous interactive events. The winners were awarded their well-deserved trophies and certificates.
  • Investisiya’ 24 – On October 16, 2024 to commemorate ‘World Investor Week’, the BFM Department in collaboration with NKES Degree College of Arts, Commerce and Science, BSE, ANMI, and NISM organized "Investisiya," - a seminar focused on enhancing financial awareness and encouraging smart investment strategies among students.
  • Cultural and Social Events
    • Organized a screening of the movie ‘The Big Bull’ for students on August 26, 2024.
    • Hosted a freshers' party for the first-year cohort on September 05, 2024.
    • Celebrated Garba Night on October 12, 2024 to celebrate Navratri.
    • Celebrated Traditional Day.
    • Organized the BFM Premier League, a customary annual BFM sport event. Spanning two days, the event ran from January 31st to February 1st, 2025, with cricket and football as the main sports.
    • Crescendo, organized by the first-year students to build camaraderie and encourage interaction among students from all three academic years.
    • Organized a farewell party to formally bid adieu to the third-year students.
