The Implication of India's Brain Drain on It's Future

                                                                                Rahi Jain (M.Com. - BM)

India's brain drain which is a common and on-going phenomenon since the past the past few decades is a worrisome
trend. Indian nationals moving to other countries, mainly the United States, United Kingdom or Canada either to
experience western culture; for academic enhancement; career opportunities; a better lifestyle; freedom from social
and cultural do's and don'ts or to take advantage of the economic and social safety nets offered by their dream
destinations may have consequences that will be far more serious than is currently being realized and needs to be
           dammed.

The COVID pandemic and subsequent lockdown did put a check on the migration pattern of a large number of
Indians, even though some countries such as the US allowed medical professionals and healthcare workers in and a
fair number of Indians grabbed the opportunity and relocated. However, the easing of travel restrictions has once
           again opened the flood gates.

The cause behind this trend of relocation needs to be addressed. We need to find out and know what is it that drives a
person to move away from his motherland and adopt a foster motherland. While the government has brought a
National Skill Development Mission, aiming to train 400 million Indian people, the brain drain is almost inevitable.
Unless the government offers significant incentives, security and development which make it attractive for people
to remain in India, India's loss will be another country's gain - the 'Brain Drain' from India will become a 'Brain
           Gain' for many other countries.
